About us
Takara Nord — a place where the feeling of home meets timeless design
Nõmme, with its tall pines and quiet streets, is a perfect place for a cozy interior salon where every item tells its own story. It is here, in a charming house, that Gerli Mõisja has created Takara Nord, where design meets a personal touch. This is not a typical interior salon but a place where you feel welcomed from the very first moment.
When a hobby becomes a profession
The story of Takara Nord began more than ten years ago when Gerli started restoring and selling furniture. At first, it was just a hobby to do occasionally, but when she realized that people appreciated both her skills and taste, she decided to dedicate more time to it. Although she no longer restores furniture daily, the woman still offers, in addition to Scandinavian-made interior elements, vintage furniture restored by her own hands in her salon.
Gerli's most recent and heartfelt venture Takara Nord – whose name consists of the Japanese word takara (treasure) and the Nordic-influenced "nord" – started about five and a half years ago and has undergone quite a few changes since then. The salon has changed location at least three times, and the concept has shifted slightly with each new place. However, Gerli has always dreamed of Takara Nord as it is now – a cozy, homely, and warm place where people can come to gather inspiration and bring their vision of the ideal home to life.
A feeling of home that cannot be faked
The uniqueness of Takara Nord lies precisely in its atmosphere. It is not sterile, distant, or perfect like many showrooms, but rather feels like a warm hug or a long caress. Stepping through the door of Takara Nord is like entering the living room of an old friend, where a steaming drink and a crackling fire in the fireplace await you.
Such a cozy atmosphere is by no means accidental, but carefully created and thought out. The reason Gerli has decided on this solution lies in the desire to display every item in her store in its natural environment – a sofa in the living room, dishes in the kitchen, a reading corner with an armchair on the veranda. In ordinary furniture stores, it can often be difficult to understand how a lamp, sofa, or chest of drawers would look in a living room because they cannot be placed in context. At Takara Nord, however, you immediately see how a kitchen table with chairs works or which sofa and desk create the coziest feeling.
Just as the placement of products is not random, neither is their selection. Every product in the Takara Nord salon has been personally chosen by Gerli and in some cases even restored. Every selected item – whether it is a wardrobe from the sixties, a minimalist vase from a well-known brand, or a handmade rug – reflects Gerli's taste and sense of beauty, and this taste and vision have been trusted over the years by many clients who know that if they need something authentic and unique, they can find it at Takara Nord.
The essence of Takara Nord is perhaps easiest to understand through the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy. This ancient mindset values imperfection, natural beauty, and the history of objects. When looking at the furniture offered at Takara Nord, you won't find mass production or anything overly perfect. On the contrary, every item is chosen for carrying history and character.
Organic shapes and minimalist lines
It is almost impossible to simply call Takara Nord a store, and the atmosphere there is difficult to put into words. It is a place where every detail is thoughtfully considered – natural materials, organic shapes, and minimalist lines that create harmony. In addition to furniture, the salon offers rugs, lighting, handicrafts, and kitchenware that fit perfectly into a summer home or rustic interior.
The best time to drop by is always!
Takara Nord is mostly open by appointment on all weekdays, and during those times Gerli is fully dedicated to the client arriving at the salon. Once a month, on a couple of days, you can also visit the salon without a prior appointment – then OPEN HOUSE takes place.
More information and opening hours can be found on the website takara-nord.com or on Takara Nord's social media.
Listen to the voice of your heart
Gerlil has a simple piece of advice for home furnishing: "Don't follow trends, but listen to your heart. Choose carefully what you bring into your home, because every item has its own energy. Natural materials are timeless, more pleasant to touch, and better for your health. Less is more!"
